Why Only until June 30, 2008? ArPTA President Rob Jordan asked the APTA why was the Medicare therapy cap exception process only approved until June 30, 2008 in the bill passed by the Senate on our behalf. Here is the answer Rob received: There were a lot of provisions related to Medicare that Congress needed to address including the therapy cap and the fee schedule cuts. Finding the funding to address these issues was a source of conflict or controversy among those on Capital Hill. The six month extension was a way to ensure beneficiary access wasn't disrupted at the start of 2008 with the knowledge that after the holidays Congress would have to revisit the issue and resolve their differences. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Sarah Nicholls-Sharp, MA Regulatory Assistant Government Affairs American Physical Therapy Association It will be necessary to stay on the legislators to pass something more permanent after the holidays. |
